TGIF: Blogger Appreciation

TGIF is a feature over GReads to re-cap the week's posts  & to propose a question for all the followers.

Book Blogger Appreciation:
Which book blogs have inspired you
or made a difference in your blogging experience?

I wasn't planning on doing any posts today, I have had a busy week and I have HW for my class tomorrow, but once I saw the TGIF question, I had to participate so that I could thank all those that where with me and helped me out when I began this journey!

I could list blog after blog after blog that have made a difference in my Blog and what I do. Every blog I stumble upon, every blog I read has an impact. Slowly, but surely, my blog has changed since I started. My reviews now are not the same of that girl that started six months ago... and if you want to see all these blogs I read and have impacted me, you can take a look to your right at my blog roll. Today, is about those blog that where there when I started, and the people behind those blogs that helped me become a blogger!

Ginger from GReads
One of the first people I turned to (on twitter of course) when asking questions was Ginger, she was one of the first blogs I followed. I really loved her easy going style, it wasn't over done or over the top. Little by little I got to know this girl more through twitter, and later g-chat friends, and now I really consider her a friend. Someone to talk to not just about the books I love, and don't forget the music, but also what's happening in my life.  Thanks G for making such an awesome blog, that I had to contact you :)

Smash from Smash Attack Books and Isa from BookSoulmates
The first S Fl bloggers I really talked to were Ash and Isa, both there blogs are crazy cool, and involve owls! Which at the time, my blog was owl themed so that was pretty cool... but not only that they where honest to god so nice and welcoming. I had just gotten into blogging, I had never gone to any events, so I was super nervous when I met them for the first time, within minute I felt like I knew them my whole life. They both have given me many great romance recommendations, and have opened up that side of the blogging world to me... not to mention they have super awesomely organized blogs!

Cyndi from Dog-Eared and Bookmarked
Also met through twitter, Cyndi was the first one to really give me advice on how to get new books. I remember that day we talked for so long, super helpful, unlike other bloggers she didn't guard her secrets, she is so open and great! I was actually following her on twitter before I followed her blog, but once I started following I really realized that she is one of the ones that does this for the love of books, truly!

Farrah and Britney from I Eat Words
I met Farrah through twitter, I loved their blog and I saw we had so much in common, so I contacted her. I got to know her and Britney through Twitter and I was able to meet them at BEA. So much fun was had. I love the way these girls do their reviews and they where the ones to inspire me to get into the vlog side of things.

I just realized I may have followed their blogs, but I really met all these amazing people through twitter! And every day I meet some more. So glad to be part of this awesome community!!
And a shout out to the class of 2011 bloggers... we all started our blogs around the same time and I loe chatting with these girls about it Reading Housewives of Indiana and Two Readers Review

Blogger Confession: What's the last book you could not finish? (or had a hard time finishing?)

Back in February I wrote a post on DNF, a discussion type post on my opinions and general rules other people have - for the full article it can be found here- but I will post a little snippet of what I wrote ....

I really don't like NOT finishing a book, especially an ARC that has been given to me, but sometimes you just don't click with a book. For me its usually one of two things: 1) I am stressed/ or unfocused at the time I begin to read or 2) I really don't click with the characters. These cause me to not be able to focus/concentrate on the book and therefore I just can't get into the book.

In the past I have had times where I give up on a book too soon, or don't give up soon enough. I'll pick up a book I gave up on and fall in love the second time I try to read it, such as with The Hunger Games -I know I am an idiot for not loving it the first time around- The Summer I turned Pretty, and The Sky is Everywhere. All these are amazing books that I gave up on quickly and then on re-reading them I fell in love.

Other times, I finish it and still wasn't touched or moved by it. Ex: Beautiful Creatures, Lipstick Laws,  Getting Revenge on Lauren Wood, and The Vespertine. For the most part those books where ARCs and I felt like I had to review them, so I finished. With Beautiful Creatures I just wanted to know what happened, and that made me skip a lot of the book, even though I technically finished it.

Let's step away from besties...What is the worst book that you've ever read and actually finished?

Funny that that is this week's question, as I mentioned above in the third paragraph, I actually did finish those books, but they where just okay.

Mr & Mrs: Who are your favorite book couples

I really tried to pick my favorite book couples of all time, but I am not going to lie, the books I am currently reading or have read recently have definitely affected my choices. They are fresh in my mind after all. I also noticed, a lot of them come from series because the relationship builds so much, but I tried to include some non-series. FYI: there is a difference between favorite book couples and literary crushes in which I wish I was the girl in the couple.

As in my first choice couple, Edward and Bella from Twilight. While Edward is definitely one of my bookish crushes, I really love Bella and Edward as a couple. Even if I wasn't re-reading Twilight, they would be my number one choice. There is something about their old souls and their passionate "I can't live without you" type of love.

Coming in at a close second, would be the couples of Shiver, Sam and Grace & Isabel and Cole, especially after reading Forever. Sam and Grace have that same type of all consuming love, and are so comfortable with each other, while Isabel and Cole fight being close to another person, but are so right for each other and they can't even see it.

Other couples I LOVE together:

(Stand-Alone) Favorite Book Couples
Compared to above, these couples don't start off all lovey-dovey, actually most of these have those love/hate relationships, but when together you can't help but LOVE them.

  1. Bianca and Wesley... The DUFF: (Designated Ugly Fat Friend)
  2. Meg and John... Going Too Far
  3. Will and Kate... Perfect You
  4. Samantha and Logan... All's Fair in Love, War, and High School
  5. Jake and Cordelia... Getting Lost with Boys
I really have so many more favorites than this. And I know favorites usually means a specific smaller set/group, but all these couples are favorites for different reasons and just making this list makes me want to jump into their stories and feel the love all over again <3

TGIF # 8

TGIF is a feature over GReads to re-cap the week's posts  & to propose a question for all the followers.

This Friday's Question:
And I Quote: What are some of your favorite book quotes?

This is a really tough one for me because I am all about book quotes and sometimes I forget to save some of my favorite quotes in goodreads. Also, some of my recent favorites (like from Ten Things We Did) would be a little spoilery, so I can't share, or rather I would want you to stumble upon it yourself. But my all time favorite quote would be..... DRUMROLL....
I also really like:

Lastly, this one doesn't have a cool picture...
"There is neither happiness nor unhappiness in this world; there is only the comparison of one state with another. Only a man who has felt ultimate despair is capable of feeling ultimate bliss. It is necessary to have wished for death in order to know how good it is to live.....the sum of all human wisdom will be contained in these two words: Wait and Hope." The Count of Monte Cristo
These are just a few from my favorite books and series, to check out more see my goodreads quotes page here. I need to update it with books I have read recently =)

This Friday's Question:
Genre Wars! What's your favorite genre and which book in that genre made it your favorite?

I don't really have a favorite genre, but I guess I do read contemporary YA fiction again and again. However, most of my favorite books are paranormal, dystopian, and sci-fi. So I am pretty much all over the place!

TGIF # 7

TGIF is a feature over GReads to re-cap the week's posts  & to propose a question for all the followers.

This Friday's Question:
Book Love: Do you share your books with others? Who was the last person you sent a book to?

Yes! I love to share my books because it means more people to talk about the books I love! And really though most of the time, when will you pick that book up again? So why not send it out to someone who hasn't read it.

To be honest until I heard about the BookSoulmates RAK program (awesome blog by the way check it out here), I really never thought of sending my books to other bloggers and they just sat in my shelves lonely and screaming to be read again. And then there are some books I just loved so much and I knew other people would love to *but there was no way they are getting my copy =P * so I bought and shipped one to them. For example, Ginger had never read Perks of Being A Wallflower. I was like WHATTT??? And I went to amazon and sent her one. She is after all my contemp YA twin, and that book has left such an impression on me, part of the explanation of my tattoo can be found in the pages of that book.

The last person I sent a book (well books in this case) to is Jude. I sent her a box of books I either had two of or just has no space for and I thought she would like them!

What are you doing to prepare for an upcoming zombie apocalypse and/or the return of Mel Gibson to the silver screen? (Both of which could be terrifying.)

Apparently I would die because I am in no way prepared for Zombies or Mel Gibson's return. Maybe I should just execute my hurricane preparedness plan: RUN and HIDE.

TGIF # 6

TGIF is a feature over GReads to re-cap the week's posts  & to propose a question for all the followers.

This Friday's Question:
Book Blogger Identity: What occupies your time when you are not reading and/or blogging?

Lately, all I feel I do is read and blog. With bits of watching the TV in between. Usually though, I spend a lot of time in school studying for my CPA exam and finishing my Masters. I have a part-time job as a teaching assistant at my university and that takes up some of my time too. But mostly I have my schedule down to school/work, read, blog, tv, sleep =)

What character in a book would you most like to be, what character in a book would you most like to date?

I think I would love to be Tris, from Divergent. It may sound weird to some people because who would want to live in that type of society, but I don't necessarily want her circumstances. I just wish I was as brave as she is. I feel like a lot of times I pick the easy road as to not take myself out of my comfort zone. I need to live it up a little and go after the things I want even if I am scared. (That is probably the reason why after five years of wanting a tattoo I finally went and got it yesterday ....
And the date question is so hard because I think there are so many awesome book boys. I am between Marcus Flutie, Adam from Where She Went, or Peeta from Hunger Games.

Which book blogger would you most like to meet in real life?

Oh my gosh I would love to meet everyone. It hard to find people that understand me the way other bloggers do, but if I had to get specific I would love to meet: Farrah and Brit from I Eat Words and Ginger from GReads I have gotten to know these girls really well and I can't wait to meet them! Also, my twitter buddies Mary, Flo, Teri from Books Nerds. I actually get to meet Flo tonight YAY!!

And I have also had some great twitter convos with Neri, Cynthia, and NC so I would love to actually chat with them in person. Lastly, my South FL girls which I hope to be seeing real soon Ash and Isa! There are so many more, and really I would just about love to meet any blogger =)
