Monday's Bite! Final Post

This has been an awesome re-read along, thanks to everyone that participated and below you will find a little video from moi!

Last Discussion Questions (Link up at Greads!)
  1. In chapter 21 James calls Bella telling her he has her mother and the only way he won't kill her is if Bella comes alone. What would you do in that situation? Come alone or tell Alice and Jasper?
This is one of the only things I find ridiculous about the book. Why does Bella think that Alice/Jasper or Edward can't help her. The story wouldn't be the same obviously, but I just want to shake her at this point.

  2. Was everyone else as shocked as I was when I first found out about the Alice/James situation? Do you think this adds to the story line or was it not needed? Why do you think they choose not to include these details in the movie?
I was, and I am so glad you brought this up. I am not sure if its because I forgot, or what but I feel like this storyline never really goes anywhere in the other books. I was expecting some more revelations and I feel like I never got them.

  3. Edward had to do something extremely difficult in order to save Bella from becoming a vampire. Have you ever had a similar situation in your life where you had to push your will power to its limits?
Not really, I guess other than when I diet, I have never been forced to fight for something too much.

  4. Bella and Edward get into the "to change Bella or not to change Bella" argument in the hospital. If you were Bella, would you want to become a vampire? Why or why not?
If I had an Edward, hell YEAH! LOL But like I have said before, unlike other people the idea of being a vampire doesn't intrigue me that much. Yes there are times that I would appreciate not having to sleep and all the free time (to read of course), but I would be bored after a couple hundred of years.

  5. Twilight ends with everyone going to the prom. Did you go to your prom? Was your experience similar to Bella's? Feel free to include pictures!!
I did, and I had a blast!! In Miami (most schools), your prom is in a hotel and seniors only. So my friends and I rented hotel rooms after and stayed the whole weekend. It was like a giant party and a weekend I will never forget!

This was taken the last day, you can see how tired we all are.
And yes we are still all best friends :)

EXTRA: So, it's over...Final thoughts?

Monday's Bite! Ch. 16-20 Answers

Post your link to the questions from last week at The Reading Housewives Blog!

  1. {SERIOUS question} If you where in Carlisle position, do you think you would have been able to fight off your vampiric urges? Would you ever bring someone into that life, as he did with Edward and Esme?
As bad as this sounds, I have very little willpower so I have always admired this part of the story and the fact that Carlisle is such a good guy. My mind can't even comprehend the thought of living forever so I can totally see where he would want to bring others to join him. This question definitely asks to put belief behind these lores, and if I whole-heartedly believed that vampires did exist I am not sure I would want to be one. As awesome as living forever sounds, I am of the belief that life has no meaning without death... but in this case their love gives their life meaning? I guess... LOL told you it was serious question!

  2. {FUN question} We are introduced to Edward's playful side in these chapters, before he gets all manic about the new vampires, I think we have a better picture of who he is. If you had to describe him in 5 words, what would they be? Good and Bad qualities, whatever you like!
old-fashioned, protective, stubborn, martyr, happy (around Bella)

  3. {LONG question} While re-reading I have been taking notes: observations that I have come across re-reading and comparisons to the movie. One of my notes deals with page 383, in which Edward screams at Alice there is no other option. The first time around I didn't get that he meant the future that Alice saw for Bella as a vampire (because we obviously hadn't gotten to that part), but now that I know the whole story I see that is what he meant... Has this happened to you? Do you have any examples of things that are clearer now or things that you have realized while re-reading?
Obviously, since I wrote the question, my answer is there on page 383, but it's funny what reading Midnight Sun did to open my eyes to many of Edwards motives in Twilight.

  4. {PERSONAL question} We haven't talked about this yet, but I think the idea of your human gifts amplifying in your vampire life is interesting (Jasper's control of emotions, Edward's mind reading), what do you think your gifts would be?
This sounds really dull, but I think it would be my logical skills -accounting nerd- since I have always been able to deduce things through logical reasoning. So I guess if it was amplified I would be like ones of those weird brain solver people.

  5. {SURVEY question} We are coming to the end of the book, what has been your opinion on this re-read? First, when was the last time you read it? Second, do you feel you like it more, the same, or less this time around?
I have loved this re-read so much more than I thought I would, not just reading the book but being able to discuss it with others without getting a "you must be a bandwagon jumper," or "Twilight sucks!" I have really enjoyed reading all your answers and comments! :)

And I though I still love Twilight and the series, I think I can see it better now as a really good book, and not the BEST BOOK IN THE WORLD(that my fangirl self used to say)

And on the topic of vampires I found this and loved it!

1. Do you think the name "Twilight" for this book is fitting with the story? Do you think a better name could have been chosen? What about the series and the names as a whole?
I like Twilight because I feel like it’s a good expression for the end of something yet the beginning of something else. Like Bella’s life after meeting Edward, her existence (and his for that matter) will never be the same. Same with the other titles. Again, when I first got into Twilight and would read Steph Meyer’s blog, she wrote an FAQ on all the books and in them she describes her reasons for the titles. I have the links here:

2. On this re-read, what’s your favorite part of the book? Is it the vampires, setting, plot, characters, Edward, or something else?
It’s Edward, totally Edward! Well and I guess it also feels like coming home. It reminds me of the younger me, reading this and falling in love with her first fictional character. It reminds me of the hope this book gave me that this love has to be based on something real, even if the story isn’t.

3. Edward shows his stalkerish/controlling tendencies during these chapters for the first time (at least Bella is aware), did this bother you the first time you read Twilight? Does it bother you now that you’re re-reading it? Should Bella be more worried about it?
No, it didn’t bother me at all! I can say I was a little like “that’s not a normal reaction” whenever Bella was so blasé about it, but I am also re-reading Midnight Sun now, which goes up until the day he begins questioning her, and I can see his motives and therefore I know he does it out of love.

4. Do you find yourself, during or after reading another paranormal/supernatural book, comparing it to Twilight? If you do, why do you think that is? Is it because it’s popular or because it’s just a book that makes an impact?
Unfortunately I do! Not every book, but I do compare characters that are similar… like I felt Vincent from Die for Me was Edward's long lost brother.

I don’t think I do it because Twilight is popular, I do it because the characters feel real to me, and just like when in real life you meet someone and think they remind you of someone you already know, same thing happens with books.

5. Bella is introduced to the Cullen Family in chapter 15, who is your favorite Cullen and why?
I love Alice! I just love her bubbliness and her quick responses. I really could see her being my best friend. For that reason too I really like Emmett as well, he’s like the laid back big brother I always wanted!

SIDE NOTE: If you read the Twilight and Breaking Dawn FAQ you will know about Forever Dawn… (the original sequel that was too HOT to be a young adult book) wouldn’t that be exciting to read??

I loved these questions, because it brought non-twilight related topics to mind and I was really able to reflect on some of these and my reading habits!

  Q. Because we have to talk about it sometime - are you Team Edward or Team Jacob? does that impact how you re-read the book?
TEAM EDWARD - FTW literally :) haha but for real when I first read Twilight, I had no idea there would even be teams, I only saw Edward and the first time reading it did affect me. Like when I read New Moon (1st time) I skipped a lot of the Jacob parts, and in Eclipse, I would not admit (even after Bella did) that some part of her did love him, but after reading Breaking Dawn I understood who Jacob was to Bella and who he would become to them all. So re-reading the book now I can look at Jacob afectionately as Bella's best friend and not the person trying to steal her away from Edward.

Back when I was an even BIGGER Twilight nerd, I used to read Stephenie Meyer's blog daily, and I found this quote and I loved it!

Q. Bella spends a lot of her time by herself in her room when she's not at school. what do you think this says about her as a character? can you relate to her introverted nature?
I really related to this side of her, because unlike most of my friends, I am perfectly happy staying home every once in a while. I also think that this gives us a chance to see, how mature Bella is for her age. She enjoys the calmer things of life and is very responsible... cooking and cleaning for her age.

Q. Probably my favorite chapter of the entire book, chapter eight brings us dress shopping, nearly getting assaulted, and then wraps up nicely with a quaint dinner and confession time. in this we see the blend of typical teenage existence starting to get tainted by the paranormal world. if given the choice right then, would you push to know more about the paranormal, or bury your head in the sand and live the teenage dream?
You know that quote: ignorance is bliss? So True! But me, I would rather be unhappy and worried, but really know what is up. Plus curiosity would have kept me glued to that chair no matter what!

Q. Already, it's pretty clear that Bella is falling for Edward. is this happening too quickly to be plausible, or is it totally reasonable to you? what about Edward do you find to be swoonworthy at this point?
This question is perfect, because the first time I read it, I never thought "oh this is happening too fast for my liking". Its funny, what becoming a book reviewer does to you, back then I wanted the fast emotional roller-coaster, who cares if it felt real! Now re-reading it I was thinking about how long they where together before the crazy stuff starts, and its nothing, NOTHING, they are together like a week?? holy shitballs, how do you know you love someone??

One of my biggest book complaints is insta-love, and I think I might have to take it easy on that now. You have to accept that the book isn't real, its a fantasy, and so if you accept that you have to accept that the love story is a fanatsy as well and not something that is supposed to replicate real life.

Q. Jessica has to forcibly remove all of the details on what's going on from Bella, but through that we learn more about how she's feeling and how she's falling for Edward already. if you were in Jessica's shoes, what would you say to Bella?
"Stop being vague woman and tell me details, NOW!" LOL

First off, I have to say I am so excited to be doing this Twilight Re-Read along, especially after having read these first five chapters. Also, while reading I kept thinking about Edward's POV from Midnight Sun and I just had to re-read that as well. If you have yet to read the partial draft of Midnight Sun, it is available at Stephenie Meyers website and I loved it!!

Q. Have you ever had to start over in a new place, like Bella did in Forks? This new place could be a school, job, or town... just something with a new setting. How easy or difficult was this for you?
I have lived in the same house my whole life, but I did leave home (my house and my hometown) to go away for college. It wasn't that hard at first, my roommate was an old friend and I had another friend that came from my high school. But after a couple of months my roommate and I became distanced, and then it became a little tough. I felt alone, I missed my family, and school was tougher than I thought it would be. Luckily, I became closer to the girl that came from my high school and we have been best friends since. Unfortunately, there are no Edwards in college.

Q. Do you picture the actors from the movie as the characters in the book while you are reading?
I am not a fan of the first Twilight movie, like at all, so I try really hard to not picture characters as their movie counterparts. Re-reading I remember how ch. 5 is one of my faves of the book and it makes me realize how much I miss with Kristen Stewart as Bella. I read it and see Bella as a cheerfully sarcastic, clumsy, ball of fire (who might be quiet in groups, but says what she thinks), while Kristen Stewart is painfully shy, awkward, and has no spirit. I also think Robert plays Edward a little too broodingly in parts, but overall he does okay. Still I am pretty good of throwing them out of my mind and bringing back my original picture of Edward and Bella <3.

Q. What are your first thoughts on meeting Edward in Bella’s Biology class? At first he was annoyed by her presence, but then after a week away he returns & finds him self very interested in her. Do you think this helped or hindered the storyline?
It's funny because you know this whole time he is a vampire, because of the back of the book, but Bella is clueless to this fact for a while... and like Bella I find myself being clueless too, wondering what is up with Edward (at least the first time reading it). Now re-reading, I think it definitely adds to the mystery of him, Edward is a vampire, but is he really evil, is he really dangerous?? I also find really funny reading certain parts, like when Bella says if looks could kill, his would have... she didn't know how right she was.

Q. Out of the secondary characters Bella meets at school, who is your favorite and why? (I am referring to the humans, not the vampires in this question)
I don't have any that is a particular favorite, but I did realize something while re-reading. They weren't all friends until Bella came along. She writes about them starting to sit together and lunch, meaning they didn't before. I had always thought they where a group of friends already in progess and Bella joined, but really Bella brought them all together!

Q. There is a lot of dialogue between Edward and Bella in these first few chapters that I feel played a major role in developing their relationship. What are some of your favorite quotes? or moments?
Sooooo many!!! I smile to myself so many times in their conversations. Specific scenes I love: the cafeteria scene and the blood typing scene... like I said Chapter 5 is one of my favorites.
